HashShot Electronic Evidence Ecosystem

HashShot Electronic Evidence Ecosystem

Chrome ExtensionOpen Access

The HashShot Electronic Evidence Ecosystem lets you to cryptographically prove the integrity of a screenshot from the time of its inception. It currently comprises a Chrome Extension and desktop Verification App (for Windows). It is a modular system and the techniques can be expanded to encompass other capture modalities such as photo and video, software plugins, etc, as well as other verification modalities. Capturing screenshot evidence: User uses the extension to capture a screenshot. The extension immediately hashes the screenshot data and stores the hash on a blockchain so cryptographic verification of integrity can be done at a later stage. The screenshot itself is not stored on the blockchain; only the hash is recorded. No data about the user is captured or recorded. Verification: The Chrome Browser Extension can be used for single-file verification. Multi-file verification should be done through the HashShot Verification App (currently available only for Windows). The Verification App calls the same smart contract as the Chrome Browser Extension and they are interoperable. Blockchain layer: The HashShot ecosystem uses Stability's public cryptoless blockchain, the Global Trust Network (GTN), as the blockchain layer. The GTN has no cryptocurrency dependencies and you do not need any crypto to use this extension. The Ecosystem can be expanded in an interoperable and modular way so long as all modules call on the same smart contract. The Extension and Verification App are free for you to use.

Pairity: Last Mile Document Checks

Web AppOpen SourceSource

What it does: Compares DOCX vs PDF text Context: At the end of contractual negotiations, lawyers on both sides typically have a final version of the working document (often in .docx format). One side may convert the final version to PDFs for signing, requiring the other side to then check the PDF against the final version of the working document, to ensure that no changes have been introduced. This "last mile" document check can be time consuming and not as simple as doing a Compare between two Word documents. Pairity is a fast and light Web App to help you with "last mile" document checks. How it works: Pairity extracts and compares text directly between the DOCX and PDF. Confidentiality: Processing takes place entirely within your browser, ensuring confidentiality. Files are not sent to anyone. Cost and license: Pairity is free and open source for you to use and adapt. Known limitations: (1) Scanned PDFs (i.e. image PDFs) are not supported; digitally-generated PDFs only. (2) Text inside images cannot be compared. (3) You must accept all tracked changes in the .docx before doing the comparison. (4) Headers and Footers will often be flagged. (5) Complex layouts (footnotes, tables, multi-column, etc) may be flagged. (6) Capitalisation changes are not flagged - comparison is case-insensitive. This avoids false positives from styling markups. (7) Clause renumbering is not detected - auto-numbered list markers are stripped before comparison to avoid false positives from styling markups. (8) Pairity is a verification assist tool, not a substitute for legal review.
